About this place

This is a private cottage for a one-month (15-day) "country stay" in Geumseong-ri, a quiet seaside village bordering the western side of Gwakji Beach on the Aewol Handam Beach Trail. I wake up to the sound of birds chirping in the forest, sit on the porch in the yard or at an outdoor table, and gaze at Hallasan Mountain and the volcanic cones to the south. In the evening, the shimmering glow of the sunset sinking over the northwestern horizon brings back memories of Hemingway's *The Old Man and the Sea*. After trekking along the Handam Beach Trail and Handam Cafe Street—while dipping my feet in the seawater—and walking barefoot on the Olle Trail Course 15-B right next to the accommodation, I enjoy a cup of coffee before returning home. On the way, I sit on the rocky area of the Gwakji Gwamul Open-Air Bath and zone out while gazing at the vast ocean.
