Surroundings & additional info
Onpyeong-ri was originally Yeolun-ri. It is the place where the three princesses of Byeollang Kingdom washed ashore on Hwangrual Beach, married the three noblemen—Go, Yang, and Bu—and began farming and livestock raising. It is also known as the village of Honinji, named after the opening of civilization and the marriage of the nobles. It is situated along the long Hwanhae Fortress Wall and possesses a significant number of historical sites, including the Maldeungpo Watchtower and Dodatbul. Nearby, there are scattered forest paths and coastal trails perfect for a stroll. Sinyang Beach and Gwangchigi Beach are located within a 10-minute drive, while Pyoseon Beach is situated about 15 minutes to the west. Transportation is somewhat inconvenient without a car. Although there is a bus stop at Onpyeong Seopogu, buses do not run very frequently. From the entrance, the kitchen, bedrooms, and courtyard are arranged in a zigzag pattern along a long hallway. The framed print by the table on the first floor is by artist Byun Si-ji, while the photograph in front of the stairs on the second floor is a picture of stars taken on Mt. Halla by artist Jang Min-seung. The traditional Korean-style room at the end of the hallway serves perfectly as a sauna during the winter. Putting your feet under a warm blanket while peeling and eating cold tangerines... it is a scene that will likely come to mind repeatedly.
