1 minute walk: 24-hour large supermarket (delivery available), convenience store, cafe, various restaurants 5-minute walk: Jeju Island's 3rd largest general hospital, pharmacy, Jeju City Bus Terminal, elementary school and playground 5 minutes by car: Tapdong Beach, Yongduam 10 minutes by car: Jeju International Airport 15 minutes by car: Jeju Folk Oil Market (2nd and 7th) 25 minutes by car: Entrance to Gwaneumsa Temple on Mt. Halla 30 minutes by car: Gyo-rae Natural Recreation Forest, Jeolmul Natural Recreation Forest, Hamdeok Beach I fell in love with Jeju in 2012. I was fascinated by the enchanting nature that made me wonder if there was a place like this in Korea, and I came here several times a year. Whenever I got tired of city life after living in big cities in many countries, Jeju embraced me and was like a 'support' that gave me the strength to return to my daily life. That's why I prepared 'Batum', a space that helps people who want to rest completely and look after their body and mind to endure. We welcome those who need a quiet rest and support in their lives. What kind of place is Samdo-dong? The atmosphere, weather, and language of Jeju Island are all different in the east, west, south, and north. The east where the sun rises beautifully and the wind is strong, the west where the sunset is beautiful, and the warm Seogwipo. Jeju, which embraces Mt. Halla, presents clear weather even when it rains in Seogwipo. Among them, Samdo-dong is a place that holds many titles of “firsts” in Jeju. It is where the first government office and administrative center were established, and it is also the birthplace of culture, including the first library and theater. Therefore, it is close to Jeju Airport and the bus terminals that connect all four sides of Jeju Island, within 5-10 minutes. What are the advantages of the old city center? Jeju City is often divided into the old downtown area and the recently developed new Jeju area. Unlike the new Jeju area, which is full of big hotel chains and franchise stores and resembles Seoul and other large cities, the old Jeju area, which was the original center of Jeju City, has a lot of Jeju-like feelings. Samdo-dong, where Jeju residents live, has an elementary school, playgrounds, hospitals, small but old restaurants popular with Jeju residents, and houses with well-kept gardens with pretty murals and exotic palm trees, giving it a neighborhood feel. It reminds me of walking through a residential area in Rome, Italy, and admiring the lemon tree gardens. In our neighborhood, there is a dry stream, which is characteristic of Jeju Island, a small pavilion, and a statue of the goddess Seolmundae Halmang, who is said to have created Jeju. Compared to the harbor fronts or coastal villages with many entertainment facilities and unsafe public safety, it is a very safe neighborhood. Tell me the story of the old house. My house is a 44-year-old single-story house built in 1979, with a second-floor unit added in 1990. The first floor and the front door are separate. It is a cozy and warm house where a Jeju Island family lived, and where we watched all four children grow up and leave home. My first impression was the mysterious combination of the wooden ceiling and shoe cabinet, the 90s-style floral wallpaper, and yellow tiles. The wooden ceiling and wooden-framed glass windows were designed to preserve the original form as much as possible, while adding a 2022 interpretation, creating a house where digital nomads can enjoy Jeju. This is the perfect home for a digital nomad like me who works from anywhere with just a laptop. I have a study desk made from old but beautiful antique furniture that I collected and sanded and oiled by hand. I realized my dream of having an antique study desk like the ones in the movies. The bedroom is designed to focus solely on sleep. There is a king-size bed, a mother-of-pearl bedside table, and a companion plant, Hwangchil. The indoor balcony, where I can enjoy a glass of wine while sitting on a comfortable wing chair on a summer night, is my favorite space. Tom Dixon's full moon-like yellow lighting is enchanting. In the living room, I installed flower bud-like lights and smart bulbs. You can select the lighting color you want according to the mood of the day with a smartphone app. Outside the front door, you can observe the fragrance of kumquat flowers and baby kumquats (Bbangkang) growing in the Wooyoung Pot (Jeju-style vegetable garden) made by upcycling tangerine boxes. I have grown herbs and vegetables so that you can cook while you are staying at Batum. When you go out, you can order the cleaning to the robot vacuum cleaner 'Tamra Kongjwi' with a smartphone app.

If you leave the bedroom window open, you may hear noise from the next door intermittently. * Parties are strictly prohibited. □ Pests Jeju Island is a clean island with a preserved natural environment, and the humidity is very high in the summer.
